Never Grow Up Holden?

This weekend I was listening to Taylor Swift's new album Speak Now. One song on Speak Now is called Never Grow Up. The song is about a girl never wanting her baby to grow up and then at the end of the song she realized that she never wanted to grow up.

No one's ever burned you
Nothing's ever left you scarred
And even though you want to
Just try to never grow up

This part of the song reminded me of The Catcher in the Rye. Holden didn't want to grow up and acted very immature. He acted like that because he had been through so much that the thought of being an adult scared him.

  1. ooo very good connection! I agree with this, Holden did experience a lot and always seemed to run from his mistakes and fears because he didn't want to face them. In the end he did realize that he needs to start changing and that being an adult isn't that bad.

  2. Fabulous connections Carly! Who'da thunk that bubbly T-Swift and melodramatic Holden would have some similarities. I think it really shows how everyone is afraid of growing up and that everyone realizes how great it is to be young. Nikki I don't know if everyone is capable of embracing adulthood.

  3. Hey Carly, I love you and all, but the first problem with this is that you were listening to a Taylor Swift song... But musical tastes aside, those lyrics do sound relatable to Holden.

  4. Ha! Becca! But I do agree Carly, these lyrics are extremely relateable to Holden from The Catcher in teh Rye. The first line, "No one's ever BURNED you" reminds me of the motif of fire in Jane Eyre also.
