Visions of Childhood

1. Pick a TV show or movie that depicts childhood. What does it seem to be saying about the nature of being a kid? What "story" does it tell about childhood?

The TV show Full House is all about being a kid. I think it shows that childhood isn't always happy-go-lucky. There will always be bumps in the road and times where you need a friend. I think Full House depicts childhood very well but everyone might not be able to relate.

2. In the four stories we’ve read, how is childhood depicted? What similarities or differences are there? What are the authors saying about childhood? Do they get it “right?”

The four stories we read made children seem unaware of what was happening around them. I think children these days are smarter and know how to handle real life situations. The authors are saying that childhood is not what is is today. I believe that they didn't get it "right."

  1. Everyone may not be able to relate Carly, but I sure can! I completely agree with you, Full House is a child's guide to a successful childhood.

  2. Good choice Carly. Full House shows the hectic family life and many childhood experiences in each of the episodes. It shows all ages and relates to both good experiences and hard times, and although it is an older show, it was a nice choice.

  3. I completely agree! Growing up, I always watched this show. I definitely thought it was the perfect depiction of childhood. Who wouldn't want to be part of the perfect Tanner family? They have fun, get into fights, resolve issues, and love each other. It's for sure one of those picture perfect families everyone wants to be a part of.
